University of the Pacific is 加州的 oldest 大学, 7月10日成立, 1851—less than a year after California received statehood. Established by pioneering Methodist ministers, it remains the only Methodist-affiliated 大学 in California.

Initially located in Santa Clara, the 大学 later moved to San Jose, 1924年, 在斯托克顿, making it the 第一个 private four-year 大学 in the Central Valley.

1851 Established as California’s 第一个 大学

1871 Became California’s 第一个 coeducational campus and moved from Santa Clara to San Jose

1878 Established the West’s 第一个 Conservatory of Music 

1924 Relocated the campus from San Jose 在斯托克顿

The ‘pioneer or perish’ era

The 大学 experienced significant growth and expansion in its graduate and professional programs under the leadership of President Robert 伯恩斯 (1947–1971), who transformed Pacific with his motto “Pioneer or Perish.”
 
1955 Established the School of 药店

1957 Established the School of Engineering

1960 Became an independent institution 

1962 Acquired the College of Physicians and Surgeons, a school of dentistry located in San Francisco

1964 Completed construction on the iconic 伯恩斯 Tower

1966 Acquired the McGeorge School of 法律 in Sacramento

Pacific on the rise

Pacific continued to advance its legacy of innovation and leadership under President Donald V. DeRosa (1995–2009), investing more than $200 million in facilities renovation and construction projects on all three campuses. DeRosa was succeeded by Pacific’s 第一个 woman president, 帕梅拉一. Eibeck (2009–2019). Under her leadership, Pacific expanded student community outreach in San Francisco, Sacramento and Stockton.

1995 Named the School of Business in honor of the Eberhardt family

2013 Received transformational $125 million gift from estate of Robert and Jeannette Powell

2008 Opened the Don and Karen DeRosa University Center

2014 Moved the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry to a state-of-the-art facility in downtown San Francisco

2019 Established the School of Health Sciences

A new leader for a new era

2020年7月1日, Christopher Callahan became Pacific’s 26th president, three months after the majority of Pacific’s students, faculty and staff had to leave their campuses for remote learning and work due to COVID-19.

He has set the ambitious goal of Pacific becoming the best student-centered comprehensive 大学 in the nation within a decade. His areas of interest include 大学wide initiatives in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; 可持续性; and 社区的影响.
